2 Minutes That Made This Ojol Father Break Down in Tears

Medan Petisah, Medan City – (06/27/25) That day, in front of a minimarket, a middle-aged online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver sat wearily, waiting for orders that never seemed to come. His face was etched with exhaustion, reflecting his struggle to provide for his family amid financial hardship. Unexpectedly, Jesica Thamrin, often called Jestham, approached him and invited him to shop for basic necessities—as much as he could grab—within just 2 minutes. Filled with emotion at this sudden blessing, the man eagerly followed Jestham into the minimarket.

With the countdown underway, the father sprinted through the aisles, quickly filling his cart with essentials: rice, cooking oil, eggs, instant noodles, and even milk for his children. As he shopped, he shared snippets of his life’s struggles. “This feels like a dream,” he said, still in disbelief. His wife’s phone, damaged in a flood, mounting debts, and the dwindling number of Ojol orders had weighed heavily on him. “It’s like digging a hole just to fill another,” he admitted, describing how hard it was just to cover basic needs.

Beyond the shopping spree, Jestham surprised him with extra cash to help repair his wife’s phone. Overwhelmed, his tears began to fall. “I can’t repay this kindness—may God bless you instead,” he said, voice trembling. He offered a heartfelt prayer for Jestham, wishing her health and success. Despite his hardships, he remained grateful for every bit of sustenance, no matter how small.

The father also spoke of his dreams for his children. Though life was tough, he was determined to give them a proper education. “I’ll fight through any obstacle, as long as my kids can go to school,” he said, eyes shining. Once, he’d had a more stable job, but over time, his income shrank until he had no choice but to work tirelessly as an ojol driver.

His story mirrors that of many gig economy workers who rely on daily orders to survive. He confessed to often sitting in silence when no orders came, worrying about how to provide for his family. Yet, despite it all, he clung to hope. “What matters is that we’re healthy and able to work. God will make a way,” he said firmly.

As they parted, Jestham left him with encouraging words: “I hope this small help eases your burden.” Nodding through tears, the father vowed to keep fighting for his wife and children. He believed that as long as his family stood together, every hardship would eventually pass.

This story reminds us that behind daily struggles, countless people persevere with quiet resilience. Sometimes, a little kindness arrives at just the right moment. May this tale inspire us to care and share, for the greatest blessing is the chance to be a blessing to others.
