One Encounter, A Thousand Meanings: About Life, Sincerity, and Unexpected Rewards

Pulo Brayan, Medan City—(12/06/25) An unexpected encounter has carved an inspiring story about kindness, the struggles of life, and blessings that arrive in the most unforeseen ways. Jestham, during an ordinary trip, accidentally crossed paths with a middle-aged bakso (meatball soup) seller who appeared to be waiting for customers by the roadside. The unassuming figure, with his bakso cart attached to his motorcycle, immediately caught Jestham’s attention. Behind his simplicity, the man bore a heavy responsibility—providing for his five children and wife by diligently selling bakso from morning until his stock ran out.

Moved by the sight, Jestham didn’t hesitate to approach him and offered to buy all of his remaining bakso. Her sincere intention was to share happiness by treating all the employees at her office. Upon hearing the offer, the man’s face lit up with genuine joy. With great enthusiasm, he began sharing stories about the ups and downs of his life as a bakso vendor. The scorching sun and pouring rain had been his constant companions in his journey to earn a living. He also openly recounted bitter experiences of being cheated by dishonest customers.

Yet, despite life’s hardships, one thing that never faded from the man’s heart was his gratitude to the Creator. He never neglected his prayers and always made an effort to share his blessings with those in need. His faith was unshakable—he believed that every act of sincerity would eventually bear fruit, sooner or later. Every morning, before starting his day, he would recite Al-Fatihah and Ayat Kursi, praying for his bakso to sell quickly so he could return home early.

On that blessed day, however, God had prepared an even more beautiful surprise for him. After packing all the bakso Jestham had bought and calculating the total price of Rp63,000, an unexpected moment unfolded. With a warm smile, Jestham handed him Rp1,000,000. The man’s reaction was deeply touching. Tears of joy streamed down his cheeks, mingling with a relieved smile and boundless gratitude. He couldn’t stop thanking Jestham and praying for her kindness.

“Thank you, Ma’am! This is the first time I’ve ever received such a blessing,” he said, overwhelmed with gratitude. He admitted that in all his years of selling bakso, this was the first time someone had bought all his stock at a price far beyond its worth. The bakso seller had been in the business since 2017. Day after day, he would travel around, passing schools and mosques, hoping for customers to stop by. The income from his bakso sales was the sole support for his wife, five children, and even four grandchildren.

He also shared the highs and lows of his trade. Aside from battling the heat and rain, he often fell victim to scams. Some customers would place large orders, promising to pick them up later, only to vanish from sight. Yet, his heart remained noble. He never hesitated to share his earnings with those in need, such as beggars or orphans he met on the street. To him, generosity was the key to attracting greater blessings.

The joy of that day wasn’t felt by the bakso seller alone. All of Jestham’s employees, who enjoyed the delicious bakso, also shared in the warmth and happiness of her sincere gesture. This story stands as tangible proof that even the smallest act of kindness can have a profound impact on someone’s life. What Jestham gave wasn’t just money—it was hope, renewed spirit, and a deeper belief that even in life’s struggles, there are still good people who care.

Behind every struggle, there is always room for miracles. May the bakso seller always be granted good health, abundant blessings, and endless happiness. May his unwavering sincerity in sharing, despite his modest means, be rewarded by God with unexpected grace.
