Rp280,000 to Return Home: The Hopeful Story of a Father from Duri
Medan, North Sumatra - (March 16, 2026) On a busy street corner, a middle-aged father with physical limitations continues to search for a living. His steps are unsteady; his legs have been weak since birth, but his spirit never fades. Jestham approached him and started a simple conversation that turned into a touching story.
"Where are you from, Sir?" Jestham asked kindly. "From Duri," the man answered briefly. Duri, a subdistrict in Bengkalis Regency, Riau, is known as an oil-rich area. However, for this father, his home was a place he had not been able to visit for a long time. He currently lives away from home with his nephew, the only family who accompanies him.

Jestham then asked a more personal question: "What's wrong with your legs, Sir?" Innocently and without hesitation, the man replied, "From birth." From the very beginning of his life, he has had to struggle with physical limitations.
Upon hearing his story, Jestham was moved. She then said, "I have some blessings from God. May you accept this?" While giving something, Jestham smiled. "Yes, thank God," the man answered, his eyes lighting up. "You're welcome, Sir," Jestham replied. Yes, Jestham felt that the blessings she received were not entirely hers; there was a portion that she had to share with those in need.
However, shortly after, the man delivered some sad news. "Oh, my mother just passed away," he said softly. Jestham was surprised and quickly offered her condolences. "I'm so sorry for your loss, Sir. Haven't you been able to return home?" "Yes, because I don't have the money for the trip," the man answered.

Jestham asked how much it would cost to return to Duri. "Rp 280,000,", the man answered. An amount that may seem small to some but feels enormous and heavy for someone with an uncertain income. Rp280,000 became a barrier between him and his hometown, between him and the last chance to see his mother before her burial.
Jestham then gave her heartfelt plea, "I hope the blessings I just gave can be used to return home, Sir. Stay healthy, Sir. Please go home, Sir." The man simply nodded and answered, "Yes." Jestham then took her leave, "Okay, I'll take my leave now, Sir." That short conversation ended, but it left a meaningful reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can bring hope to those who are grieving and struggling.
