When Small Acts of Kindness Touch the Heart: The Story of a Ride-Hailing Driver and Flowing Blessings

Medan Sunggal, Medan City - (25/07/25) An unusual scene took place in a minimarket. Jestham once again created a moment that touched hearts. This time, she intentionally ordered a ride-hailing service not for a delivery, but to invite the driver to shop for basic groceries, free of charge, for a full two minutes. The driver initially looked very confused and almost as if he was being interrogated as Jestham explained the unusual ‘order.’ “The order is for you to shop first for 2 minutes. Then you take it home,” said Jestham.

The gentleman's confusion grew when he asked if there was a budget. “It's free. Whatever you like. This is a blessing from God for you today,” Jestham reassured him. After that explanation, the man finally understood that this was an unexpected gift. His expression of confusion turned to awe, and a happy smile began to spread across his face. “It’s like surprise money,” he murmured, still in disbelief at the sudden fortune that had come his way.

Energetically, Jestham started the countdown. For those two minutes, the minimarket aisles turned into a race against the clock, filled with laughter and excitement. Jestham urged the man to move quickly while asking what his most important needs were. Promptly, the man went straight to the grocery shelves. Rice, cooking oil, sugar, and instant noodles were the main targets. Jestham continued to guide and cheer him on, “Quickly, Sir! The rice, Sir!” “Oil, oil, oil!” “Grab some more, Sir! Indomie, Sir!”

In that short time, their shopping cart was filled with various essential items. Jestham even thoughtfully reminded him of something he missed, “You didn’t get eggs earlier; let me get some for you,” showing her attention to every detail of his family's needs.

After the two minutes of shopping, an emotional atmosphere began to set in. The man could no longer hold back his emotions. Right there in the minimarket, he knelt in a prostration of gratitude, momentarily releasing all his burdens and weariness. Tears of happiness streamed down uncontrollably, a sign of how much this surprise meant to his life. “This is from God,” Jestham said humbly, trying to calm him. The man agreed, “Yes, it must be from Allah... I never expected this,” he said, continuing to give thanks.

The conversation continued, and the profound reason behind his deep emotion was revealed. It turned out the man was working hard to provide for his family and finance the education of his two children, who are still in university. “I drive for Grab for my children’s tuition, all of it,” he said with pride, even though the burden felt heavy. He shared how these groceries would greatly ease his wife’s burden at home. With a trembling voice, he sent a message to his wife, “Thank you for accompanying me all this time and for supporting me in my work and through your prayers.”

When asked about his greatest hope for his children, the man answered with a prayer full of sincerity. “To be dutiful to their parents, to be useful to the nation and country, to become pious children (a righteous son and daughter). That's all. May their aspirations be achieved.” A simple yet profound answer from a father who only wants the best for his children's future. Seeing his sincerity and struggle, Jestham was moved to give an additional monetary gift as a form of support and appreciation.

Finally, that deeply meaningful moment closed with profound gratitude. This story is not just about the material things given, but about happiness, surprise, and the recognition that a parent's struggle is never in vain. Jestham reminds us all that sharing happiness, no matter how small, has a tremendous power to change someone’s day, or even their life. A valuable lesson that sustenance can come from anywhere, and being a conduit for goodness is a beautiful blessing.
