Ramadan Blessings for a Bajaj Driver Father

Medan, North Sumatra – (April 16, 2026) The holy month of Ramadan always brings its own blessings to everyone. This holds true for a father who drives a bajaj (traditional three-wheeled taxi) and who became part of a special moment in a charity content series during this month of forgiveness. In a heart-touching encounter with Jestham, a middle-aged father was given the opportunity to shop for free for two full minutes at a store—a simple offer, yet one that had an extraordinary impact on his daily life.

When given the chance to shop, the father's expression immediately changed. His body trembled—not from fear or cold, but from overwhelming emotion and joy that he could not hide. With only two minutes on the clock, he moved quickly to fill his shopping cart, assisted by Jestham, who rushed to stock the cart with basic household necessities.

Rice, cooking oil, sugar, and eggs were his top priorities. When asked about the most essential household needs, he answered simply, "Rice and oil." As a father supporting five people at home, he knew exactly what his family needed most. Instant noodles and eggs also made it into his cart, showing that simple yet filling foods were his main concern.

Behind his joy lay a touching story of struggle. This father is the sole breadwinner of a family of five, relying entirely on his income as a Bajaj driver. "My wife doesn't work; it's just me and my bajaj," he said candidly. His daily earnings as a bajaj driver depend entirely on the number of rides he gets. When business is slow, he has to accept that he cannot bring home the treats his children wish for.

When asked about the difficulties of being a father, his eyes welled up with tears. "Why are you sad, sir, when talking about your children?" Jestham asked. "We have to be responsible," he said, his voice breaking. He admitted that he often wishes he could bring home cakes like bika ambon (a traditional Medan delicacy) for his children but is constrained by his financial situation. Yet beneath his sadness, he still holds onto a great hope: "I don't want my children to end up like us; if possible, I want them to have a better life than we do." A simple prayer that surely echoes from the heart of every parent in the world.

"What a coincidence – we just ran out of rice at home. This is truly a blessing for you, sir," Jestham remarked, visibly moved. He nodded with deep gratitude. "Yes, this is Ramadan's blessing." Right in this holy month, blessings came at a time when they were most needed. After finishing his shopping, he uttered "Alhamdulillah" (praise be to God) with full gratitude and thanked Jestham for giving him this opportunity, making her a channel of blessings from God.

For this father who drives a Bajaj, the chance to shop for basic necessities for just two minutes was enough to make him tremble with emotion and shed tears. He admitted that in his entire life, this was the first time he had ever received such an opportunity. This simple gesture that Jestham shared made an extraordinary impact on those in need. Though it was only two minutes, to him it was an invaluable moment—being able to bring food home for his family during the blessed month of Ramadan.

This story serves as a reminder to us all that there are still many of our brothers and sisters who struggle hard to meet their daily needs. A father, with all his limitations, continues to give his best for his family. Let this moment remind us that no matter how small our act of kindness may be, it will always mean the world to those who are fighting their own battles.
